Meet the Maker
Hi, I’m Melissa (Mel)
...the owner and creative mind behind all that you see in Lake Effect Crafts. I’ve been crafting & learning new hobbies since the 5th grade. I grew up watching my dad create masterpieces with the bare minimum (paper, pen, items around the house! One of my favorite memories was watching my dad create costumes from all the decades with items from the thrift store! Even more empowering were the many times he used to take me to the craft store to purchase the supplies needed for the new hobbies I desired to learn.
Between my husband, my mom, & my dad — I have nothing but support, and I could not be more grateful!
Now, I‘ve decided to make my part-time hobbies into a full-time career! When I’m not crafting, I am ever-balancing the life of a wife, stay-at-home-mom, & a business owner (actually, still learning) — soaking in every moment!
Everything created here tells a story.
Each piece is handcrafted and uniquely designed. Often inspired by nature, concepts that pop into my mind, or photos — all that is created here is done so with purpose & the intention of provoking awe and beauty.

The original name hoop that inspired all of the name hoops that would follow!
The “Madeline” hoop was commissioned to be a gift for a baby shower! I remember being awe-struck that my good friend Kiara would see the potential I had to create something new and unique for the occasion.
The ”Ava” hoop was too commissioned as a gift by the same good friend previously mentioned. However, this hoop was for Kiara’s neice who packs a lot of personality and passion for life!
I could have cried when I received the order for these hoops! As my my first bulk order, they were created to grace the rooms of 3 sisters! What an honor and how blessed these sisters are to have such a generous and thoughtful Aunt Aubree!
